Let’s look at it on a physiological level.
Sophrology slows down the activity of the sympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the stress response (Fight or Flight) and it stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system to allow our body to reset and recharge its batteries.
When we are under a lot of stress for a long period of time, we are over-stimulating the sympathetic system so our body rarely gets a chance to rest and recover… This nervous response is sensitive to habit and the more it is stimulated the quicker the stress response becomes.
By practicing Sophrology exercises, we stimulate the activity of the parasympathetic system and restore a healthy balance. We create a relaxation response that allows us to recover to be able to perform better.
Sophrology doesn’t suppress stress which is part of your personal and professional life but it builds your resilience to stress and prevents the development of illnesses.
